Ohio's system for evaluating teachers (Ohio's Teacher Evaluation System - OTES) will provide educators with a richer and more detailed view of their performance, with a focus on specific strengths and opportunities for improvement.
State Board of Education Approved Teacher Framework
Each teacher will be evaluated according to Ohio Revised Code and an Evaluation Framework that is aligned with the Standards for the Teaching Profession adopted under state law.
New Alternative Framework Components
More information will be posted this summer about the alternative teacher evaluation framework that Ohio House Bill 362 makes available beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. Districts will be able to select from the original framework described below and the alternative framework. See this news item for more information.
Original Evaluation Framework Components
Evaluations have two components, each weighted at 50 percent:
Teacher performance rating, determined from:
Student academic growth rating
Based on the evaluation, teachers receive one of four ratings.
Understanding Teacher Evaluations
Self-paced e-learning modules to help you understand the teacher evaluation system.
