This page outlines the steps to renew a Two-Year Provisional License and provides a link to the license renewal application.
Requirements for renewal of a currently valid provisional TEACHER license:
- Completion of 3 semester (4.5 quarter) hours of coursework relevant to classroom teaching and/or the area of specialization since the issuance of the license to be renewed.
Requirements for renewal of a provisional teacher license that has lapsed for UP TO FIVE YEARS:
- Completion of 6 semester (9 quarter) hours of coursework relevant to classroom teaching and/or the area of specialization since the issuance of the license to be renewed.
Requirements for renewal of a provisional teacher license that has lapsed for MORE THAN FIVE YEARS:
- Completion of 9 semester (13.5 quarter) hours of coursework relevant to classroom teaching and/or the area of specialization since the issuance of the license to be renewed.

Please note: While existing two year provisional teaching licenses may be renewed in accordance with the above requirements, new two year provisional licenses are no longer issued. Ohio's beginning teacher license is now the four year resident educator license. If you will be a participant in the Ohio Resident Educator Program (Ohio's beginning teacher induction program) then you will need to obtain a four year resident educator license, because you will not be able to register for this program if you hold a two year provisional license.
