Reminder: Nominations closing soon for the 2020 Ohio Teacher of the Year
Nominations for the 2020 Ohio Teacher of the Year are open now through April 5, 2019.
More than an award, the Ohio Teacher of the Year program annually identifies exceptional teachers statewide, celebrating their effective, inspiring work in and outside the classroom. The program also provides professional development opportunities and offers a voice to teachers as leaders and advocates in public education.
The program offers two levels of recognition: the regional State Board District Teacher of the Year (11 regions) and the state-level Ohio Teacher of the Year.
Nominees must be licensed, full-time Ohio educators with at least five years of teaching experience in state-approved public schools, community schools or career centers. They also must work directly with students at least 50 percent of the time, have received no previous Teacher of the Year recognition and plan to continue in active teaching status.
A school district or community school is not required to have a local teacher of the year recognition program in place to nominate an educator. School administrators, colleagues, community members, parents or students can nominate someone for Ohio Teacher of the Year.
Submit nominations online to State Board of Education District Territory Leads.
