Revised Ohio Standards for Principals open for second round of public comment
The Ohio Department of Education, with guidance from an advisory workgroup of principals, superintendents and others, has made draft revisions to the Ohio Standards for Principals to better reflect the roles and responsibilities of today’s building leaders. The Department posted an initial draft for public comment in late February.
An updated version reflecting the comments and feedback is now available for educator and public review and comment from April 16 through May 11.
The Department will post a summary of this feedback later in May and consider all comments to determine if the posted draft standards should be further revised.
The Department assembled the Ohio Standards for Principals workgroup in fall 2017. Members represent elementary, middle and high schools, district superintendents, higher education faculties, educator professional organizations and the Ohio Department of Education. The group’s goal was to update the standards while ensuring they remain flexible enough to apply to the many roles and circumstances of Ohio’s building principals. In addition to the workgroup’s efforts, the draft revised Ohio Standards for Principals reflect research from around the country and input from national experts.
