Reminder: Nominations closing soon for the 2019 Ohio Teacher of the Year
The State Board of Education is accepting nominations for Ohio Teacher of the Year, now through April 13. The Ohio Teacher of the Year program has two levels of recognition: the regional-level State Board District Teachers of the Year and the state-level Ohio Teacher of the Year. This program spotlights exceptional teachers statewide, celebrating their work inside and outside the classroom. Awardees become part of a national network of extraordinary educators.
Nominees must be licensed, full-time, Ohio educators with at least five years of teaching experience and must be employed in state-approved public schools, which could include community schools or joint vocational school districts. They also must work directly with students at least 50 percent of the time and plan to continue in active teaching status. Library media specialists (or those who hold similar positions) also are eligible for nomination.
Nominations must be submitted to the Territory Leads, who look to local school districts for nominations. Find a program overview, timeline, nomination form and list of State Board Territory Leads on the Department’s Ohio Teacher of the Year webpage.
