Resources now available for alternative Ohio Teacher Evaluation System framework
Districts may now choose to use a new alternative framework for the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System, or they may use the original system framework. The alternative evaluation framework weights student growth and teacher performance at 42.5 percent each of the evaluation (rather than 50 percent each as in the original system) and includes an additional measure as 15 percent. The additional alternative measure must come from one of the following components: student surveys, teacher self-evaluations, peer review evaluations or student portfolios. If selecting the alternative framework, districts much use one of the newly posted department-approved instruments with the selected alternative component.
The option of the alternative framework is one of two major legislative changes that also allow districts to choose a less frequent evaluation cycle for teachers receiving skilled and accomplished ratings, while still providing them with feedback on their work.
