Ohio English Language Proficiency Screener
The Ohio English Language Proficiency Screener (OELPS) is the official screener districts must use to identify English learners in Ohio. Districts are required to administer the OELPS, which is a secure online test available at no cost to districts. Districts are not required to start screening immediately. The OELPS may be administered any time between Aug. 1, 2018, through June 28, 2019.
A paper and pencil format is available for students who are unable to use the online test. Districts may use commercial screeners for functions other than English learner identification.
The Department offers training on local OELPS scoring in a PowerPoint available on the OELPA webpage. Districts that would like to request a Skype training session may contact Paula Mahaley.
Please email questions to Paula Mahaley or Kurt Taube.
