Department of Health dental check coming to selected elementary schools
The Ohio Department of Health will conduct a statewide dental check of third grade students during the 2017-2018 school year. Dental hygienists will visit 65 schools to check students’ teeth for cavities, fillings, dental sealants and needed dental care. Dental disease is a common condition among children, and it affects school attendance and academic achievement. Data from the dental check will help the Department of Health monitor trends in tooth decay and target its resources toward prevention programs.
Superintendents of districts scheduled for dental checks will receive emails from the Department of Health in early December containing more details. See more about the dental checks here.
