Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) during the 2020-2021 school year

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently authorized the Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) through the 2020-2021 school year. The Ohio Department of Education is collaborating with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services on this program and will provide data submission guidance soon.

To qualify for P-EBT during the 2020-2021 school year, children must be approved for free or reduced-price meals either in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school years. Schools are strongly encouraged to run a direct certification match and make free and reduced-price meal applications available to households now, so newly eligible or enrolled households may apply for benefits and qualify for P-EBT in January. Schools should provide free and reduced-price meal applications regardless of whether the school has transitioned to the Seamless Summer Option or Summer Food Service Program.
