The Department released the 2020-2021 Special Education Profiles and 2020 Special Education Ratings for all districts and community schools on Dec. 17. The Special Education Profile displays the district's performance on key indicators established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and informs the district of any required activities based on these indicators.

Last year, the Department created a One Needs Assessment prototype to prepare for the ED STEPS system design. While all local education agencies were encouraged to use the tool, only certain ones were required to use it. This year, all local education agencies and educational organizations that complete a consolidated funding application in Cohorts 1, 2 and 3 are required to use the One Needs Assessment tool.
