Nominations open for assessment committees related to Ohio’s State Tests

The Ohio Department of Education now is accepting applications for participants to serve on three types of assessment committees tied to Ohio’s State Tests in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
The Department encourages Ohio’s educators and content specialists to help Ohio create valid, reliable assessments by serving on these groups:

  • Content Advisory Committee – Reviews and evaluates test questions and related test materials to ensure each question is a valid, appropriate measure of Ohio’s Learning Standards for that subject area and grade level.
  • Rubric Validation Committee – Reviews student responses from machine-scored items administered during the online embedded field test. The review ensures the machine is scoring the items accurately. The committee can make changes to the scoring rubric for an item for clarity, accuracy and reliability.
  • Fairness and Sensitivity Committee – Reviews and evaluates test questions and related test materials to ensure questions are fair and unbiased for all groups of students. This committee makes sure test questions do not disadvantage groups of students from different races, ethnicities, genders or disabilities.
Find more information about these committees and test development information on the Department’s Assessment Committees webpage.
Interested educators may complete the Stakeholder Committee Nomination Form. Applicants must describe their experience in education, including expertise with Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts, mathematics, science or social studies. Please be sure to identify grade level and subject area preferences.
Educators interested in the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities may also use this nomination form.
Submit applications by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18. The Department will notify the applicants it has selected to participate once there is an opening on a preferred grade level and subject area assessment committee. Please be sure to include an active email address for notifications.
The Department continually updates committees when there are vacancies, so it will keep nominations on file. Please note that submitting a nomination form is not a guarantee that an educator meets the demographic, geographic or content knowledge needs of committees that have vacancies.
