Application for the design and delivery of innovative services for students who are gifted

In keeping with the Operating Standards for Identifying and Serving Students Who are Gifted, called for in Ohio law, the Ohio Department of Education and the Gifted Advisory Council have established a process and criteria for districts to submit and review applications for designing and delivering innovative services for students who are gifted.
 
An “innovative service” is one that is not described in the Gifted Operating Standards and that offers a sustained, challenging experience. This experience must be based in evidence or research suggesting the service is effective or must be a promising practice designed to meet the unique needs and interests of students who are gifted.
 
Through this application process, districts can begin reporting approved, innovative services for the 2019-2020 school year. The state may approve innovative services for as long as five years. Districts that do not have approved innovative service applications cannot report innovative services.
 
Here is the timeline for applications, review and notification.

  • Application period opens – Feb. 4
  • Applications due – April 1
  • Districts notified of initial decisions – May 3
  • Appeals by districts due – May 17
  • Districts notified of final decisions – May 31
