Ohio Department of Education announces partnership with Harvard to support rural districts

The Ohio Department of Education and the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University announced an award of $10 million from the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.

The grant will create a network of rural school districts that will devise and test solutions to the challenges of chronic absenteeism, college readiness and college enrollment in rural education. Ohio was selected to participate in this grant opportunity, in part, because rural districts in Ohio serve a large percent of the state’s school-age children compared to the national average.
