Ohio Seal of Biliteracy program implementation guidance available
Did you know that Ohio is one of 36 states offering students the opportunity to earn a highly sought-after seal of biliteracy? The Ohio Seal of Biliteracy Program recognizes graduating seniors who demonstrate high levels of proficiency in English and at least one other world language. College admissions offices, military recruiters and employers all seek graduates who have highly developed linguistic and cross-cultural skills.
Schools award the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy following state guidelines. Participating public schools and districts validate the awards through their annual EMIS reporting.
The Department has created an Ohio Seal of Biliteracy webpage that offers general information about the award and guidance for implementing the program locally, including the following resources:
- Program introduction video;
- FAQs document;
- Summary of the requirements needed to earn an Ohio Seal of Biliteracy;
- List of approved world language assessments; and
- List of EMIS program codes for language reporting purposes.
