Daily Physical Activity resource guide published

The Physical Education and Wellness Measure, which will appear on the 2012-2013 school year Local Report Cards, will provide information about a district’s policies and practices with regard to physical activity, health and wellness. In addition to other resources and reporting procedures, there is a new Daily Physical Activity Framework and Resource Guide here for districts that elect to participate in the Daily Physical Activity Pilot Program. The pilot program and the Local Report Card measure are part of Senate Bill 210, which was passed in 2010.

The guide’s framework, which was developed for ODE by the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County with area educators, includes implementation strategies as well as sample physical activities aligned with physical education content standards for four grade bands: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. The activities, which may be used as a part of a Comprehensive Physical Activity Program with students (including those with disabilities), address the physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions of wellness as presented in the National Physical Activity Plan. Both competitive and noncompetitive opportunities are included. Please direct any questions about the physical activity guide to Dawn Ayres.
