From the Superintendent

Today, Interim Chancellor Stephanie Davidson and I are visiting local schools and universities in Lima to celebrate wonderful examples of school and community partnerships at the Apollo Career Center, Rhodes State College and The Ohio State University at Lima before attending Governor Kasich’s State of the State Address this evening. You can watch the Governor’s address live tonight at 6:30 p.m. online on the Ohio Channel.

Now that Auditor of State Dave Yost has completed his attendance records review of school districts. We are busy working to publish and release the 2011-2012 Local Report Cards by the end of the month. I will provide you with final release details soon.

I remind you that the State Board of Education Accountability Committee is working to develop the new A-F Local Report Card as specified in House Bill 555. Educators from around Ohio are invited to review the work to date and provide their thoughts on report card elements and presentation. For more information and to comment, click here.

Also, we are hosting the sixth-annual Economic-Education Summit next week on Feb. 26 and 27 in Columbus. The Summit is a great opportunity for all educators to connect with leading industries to identify the key skills needed to ensure today’s students are equipped with the skills necessary to create and fill jobs in Ohio. To register for the Conference, click here.

Finally, we have received a few calls recently inquiring if Ohio is considering leaving the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), the consortium of 22 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands that are working jointly to develop the next generation of student assessments. We are not. We are completely committed to PARCC and deeply engaged in this important and exciting work.

Thank you for all you do for Ohio’s children. Have a great short week.
