2021 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students

On Dec. 14, 2020, all Ohio school districts received an email from the Assistive Technology and Accessible Educational Materials (AT&AEM) Center at OCALI containing access to the 2021 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students packet. The Ohio Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children requests that districts register every student attending school in the district who is legally blind, including all eligible preschool, homebound, home-schooled or adult students. 
 
The Federal Quota registration generates supplemental funds for registered students that the AT&AEM Center administers to purchase accessible educational materials at the district’s request from the American Printing House for the Blind. These accessible educational materials, such as audio, braille, digital and large print textbooks or educational aids, play a critical role in the education of students with visual impairments.   
 
Each registered student must have a parent permission form on file in the student’s school district of attendance. The current eye report requirement has been waived for the 2021 registration. 
 
The registration forms are due by mail to the AT&AEM Center at OCALI, 470 Glenmont Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43214 by Friday, Feb. 12, 2021.
