Spanish visiting teacher program details available on Feb. 2 conference call
To encourage quality instruction in Spanish from native speakers and promote cross-cultural exchange, Ohio has a memorandum of understanding with Spain to place visiting Spanish language teachers in Ohio schools. The Department will hold a conference call with interested districts and community schools on Friday, Feb. 2, from 9-10:30 a.m.
District and school decision-makers should contact Ryan Wertz to register for this informational call. Download the program details, application and contract, posted here, in advance.
Ohio community schools interested in hosting visiting Spanish teachers each must have officials participating in the call who represent their sponsors and who qualify to sign the application.
To hire these visiting teachers, districts get the approval of their local boards of education or community school sponsoring organizations before the March 30, 2018, deadline for applications and contracts. When Department consultants travel to Spain to interview and choose candidates, they must have solid promises of employment in hand.
Schools and districts renewing their participation should contact Ryan Wertz as soon as possible saying whether they plan to renew their current visiting teachers’ contracts for next year. They also must complete the program renewal application and contract, posted here, by March 30.
