2020 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students forms due Jan. 31

On Dec. 20, all Ohio school districts received a secure email from the Accessible Technology and Accessible Educational Materials (AT&AEM) Center at OCALI containing the 2020 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students packet. The Ohio Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children asks all Ohio districts to register any attending student who is legally blind, including preschool, homebound, home-schooled or adult students.
 
The Federal Quota registration generates supplemental funds for registered students. The center then uses the funds to purchase accessible educational materials, at a district’s request, from the American Printing House for the Blind. Accessible educational materials, such as audio, braille, digital, and large print textbooks or educational aids, play a critical role in the education of students with visual impairments. 
 
Each registered student must have a current eye report issued in 2017 or later, as well as a parent permission form on file in his or her school district of attendance.
 
Completed registration forms are due to the AT&AEM Center at OCALI, 470 Glenmont Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43214, by Friday, Jan. 31, 2020.
