The Ohio Reading Corps and Ohio Math Corps each provide individualized tutoring for students in elementary grades who are struggling with literacy and math. Tutors, who are AmeriCorps members, strive to build students' feelings of confidence and ability to perform grade-level tasks as well as those tasks that will help them be successful going forward.
Tutors are paired with a partner school, where they serve 30 hours each week. Each tutor works with a caseload of 20-30 students, meeting with each student multiple times per week. Training begins in September, and school placement begins in late September. Once placed in a school, tutors serve 30 hours per week for the remainder of the school year.
The Educational Service Center of Central Ohio recruits, trains and places AmeriCorps members to provide this tutoring service. To bring these tutors to your school, and for more information, click here.
