Ohio General Assembly changes teacher evaluation rating “Proficient” to “Skilled”

In the new 2014-2015 state budget bill, the General Assembly changed the rating of “Proficient” to “Skilled” in the framework for district teacher and principal evaluation policies to alleviate any confusion with other uses of the term “proficient” in Ohio’s education system. The ratings, in descending order, are now Accomplished, Skilled, Developing or Ineffective. The department is currently updating its website and related materials to reflect the change in wording.
