The house system is a common school tradition in some countries, where students and faculty are divided into equal teams called houses. The houses are intended to foster heathy competition against one another and create a supportive team within the house. But what happens when you use the house system in a public Ohio middle school?
Swanton Middle School in Northwest Ohio implemented a house system in the 2018-2019 school year, called the Swanton Seven Initiative. Principal Matt Smith explains how the initiative already has made a positive difference on the school climate and improved student and community engagement.
