Save the Date: Oct. 31–Nov. 1; Rural Education National Forum in Columbus
Battelle for Kids and ODE are hosting the Rural Education National Forum Oct.31–Nov. 1 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The forum will highlight instructional and leadership practices in rural districts throughout the country, feature conversations about opportunities and challenges for rural education with national and local experts, and build a network for collaborative action.

Ohio Performance Assessment Pilot Project seeking elementary schools for field testing
The Ohio Performance Assessment Pilot Project is still looking for teachers to field test social studies and science elementary performance assessments, which will be used beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. While the initial selection of participants will be announced June 14, applications will be accepted until the spots are filled or the beginning of the school year. Interested participants can apply by completing this application and submitting it to Lauren Monowar-Jones. Additional information about the project is available here
Two Federal competition grants for charter schools open through July 12
The U.S. Department of Education has two grant competitions for charter schools – one to assist in planning and implementing new schools and one to assist existing schools to increase awareness and enrollment. The U.S. Department of Education plans to award about 10 to 14 schools with up to $175,000 per year for up to three years.
The application package for both grants is available here. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on July 12.
