Department welcomes new director of the Office for Exceptional Children
The Ohio Department of Education announces that Kimberly Monachino, Ed.D., is the new director of the Office for Exceptional Children. She will begin on Aug. 1 and brings to the Department a wealth of experience in supporting the education of diverse learners.
Monachino has more than 29 years of professional experience in education through a variety of roles in northeastern Ohio. She was most recently with Lorain City Schools, serving as the executive director of Students Services, where she provided leadership to support preschool through grade 12 students with disabilities. Under her leadership, the district provided ongoing professional learning for all staff to implement districtwide inclusive practices. Before that, she served in positions supporting children with diverse learning needs including special education coordinator, director of Pupil Services, special education supervisor and special education teacher. She also taught special education-related courses for nine years at John Carroll University and Concordia University.
