2nd annual all-Ohio U.S. Armed Forces Commitment Celebration: Ohio Department of Education celebrates new graduates headed to U.S. military

The Ohio Department of Education welcomed more than 326 students from several dozen high schools around the state to celebrate their commitments to serve in the U.S. military. Representatives from the various branches spoke at the Columbus event last week in support of Ohio’s new recruits. Watch the ceremony here.

Joint statement reminder for business advisory councils

hio law requires each business advisory council and its district board of education or educational service center governing board to issue a joint statement by March 1 each year to report progress on work outlined in the council’s plan for that year. The statement also must summarize actions taken and actions pending and specify how the council and board have fulfilled their respective responsibilities under the law.

2018-2019 kindergarten survey now available

Ohio law requires the Department to survey all public school districts, including community schools, on an annual basis regarding kindergarten schedules and fees or tuition charged for providing all-day kindergarten services.

Applications open for Expanding Opportunities for Each Child grants

The Ohio Department of Education is offering a second round of the Expanding Opportunities for Each Child grant. This will be a three-year grant to expand access to advanced coursework for low-income students by developing career pathways and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate course opportunities. Districts can apply for individual grants for up to $250,000, depending on a district’s chosen area of focus.
