Coronavirus: Districts should review school safety plans

In light of current information about the coronavirus, the Department of Education encourages school staff and administrators to use this opportunity to review their school safety plans. Each school building in Ohio is required to submit a safety plan that outlines procedures for emergency situations. As a best practice, safety plans should also incorporate hazards such as widespread flu and pandemic disease outbreaks.

New training opportunity: Ohio Attorney General Threat Assessment Training

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's staff worked with staff of the Ohio departments of Education, Public Safety and Higher Education to develop a guided online training program for Ohio's local law enforcement officers and school threat assessment teams.

Graduation requirements: Competency score and guidance

Guidance is available now for long-term graduation requirements for the classes of 2023 and beyond. These requirements also are an additional option that students in the classes of 2018-2022 may choose. The guidance document offers more information on the competency scores required for graduation, as well as detailed information about each Ohio-defined seal.
