Ohio Department of Education updates information regarding gifted students, PBIS recognition, foster care and home schooling
In light of the current public health crisis, please be sure to check the Ohio Department of Education webpage regularly. Changes, cancellations and updates will be posted there.
The Ohio Department of Education remains committed to providing updates, flexibility and assistance when and where possible throughout the coronavirus-related school-building closure. As such, the Department has posted new information about how gifted education requirements and deadlines have been impacted by the coronavirus-related school-building closure.
Additionally, the Department recognizes districts and schools have many priorities to address during the ordered school-building closure; therefore, the deadline for districts to submit applications for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) recognition has been extended to Sept. 30, 2020. Please send questions to PBISOhio@education.ohio.gov.
The Department also has posted a new webpage that answers questions about how to support students in foster care during this time. The link provides access to resources that can help students in foster care who are affected by the school-building closure. Likewise, a new webpage has been created to answer questions regarding how the closure has affected home schooling. The page outlines how school districts and home-school families should work together to close out the school year for students.
