OH|ID to replace SAFE: Learn more about this new portal and access helpful resources
On Monday, May 13, the Ohio Department of Education’s SAFE portal will be integrated with the OH|ID portal from InnovateOhio. The purpose of this integration is to:
- Create an easy-to-use, intuitive user experience that lets customers access their applications from anywhere, anytime;
- Provide a single sign-on location to access both Department applications and other state applications available on OH|ID; and
- Use the latest best practices for security to safeguard important customer data.
Users can familiarize themselves with the new OH|ID portal by reviewing the features and resources below.
What is OH|ID?
Through OH|ID, Ohio Department of Education users will be able to access applications in a more secure, streamlined way. Because OH|ID uniquely encrypts a user’s personal information, every user must have only one OH|ID account. Of course, users should never share their OH|ID credentials.
What happens to my SAFE portal?
Users who have current SAFE profiles will have their profile information automatically converted to Ohio Department of Education profiles during the OH|ID integration. Users who do not have current SAFE profiles will need to create Department profiles after May 13, when the integration process is complete. Just as with SAFE, the Department of Education profile will hold all information and applications related to the Department, such as teacher licensure renewal, scholarship applications, school data reporting information and professional development training. The infographic below further details the OH|ID integration process.

Creating an OH|ID account
Users with existing OH|ID accounts through another agency do not need to create new accounts. All other users will need to create OH|ID accounts using the instructions available at the links below.

Logging in to OH|ID
It’s important for users to understand that OH|ID credentials are not the same as SAFE credentials, and that logging in to OH|ID with SAFE credentials will not work.
Any user who already has an OH|ID account from another agency will be able to log in using the existing OH|ID username and password. If you have an existing Department of Education (formerly SAFE) profile, you will be able to link that to your OH|ID account.
Users who do not have an existing OH|ID account will need to create one. If you have an existing Department of Education (formerly SAFE) profile, you will be able to link to that in OH|ID once your account is established. If you do not have a Department of Education profile, you will be prompted to create one.
Users who do not have an OH|ID profile or a Department of Education profile will need to create BOTH profiles.

Accessing and adding education applications
Upon your login, the Department of Education profile appears as a tile under the Available Apps section. Once the Department of Education profile is activated, applications will appear under the My Apps section.
