From the Superintendent
Your districts should have received preliminary fall third grade reading assessment results this week. I hope that you will look closely at these results and work with parents, staff and your community to make sure that your students get the support they need over the next several months to make progress by the spring.
As we continue to move through this school year we realize that your districts may need some support to bring your struggling readers up to speed. So I want to draw your attention to an important webcast the Ohio Department of Education is offering on Dec. 5 from 10:30–11:30 a.m. The department’s head of curriculum and assessment, Sasheen Phillips, will give you the latest news on state resources for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. During the session, teachers and administrators will have the chance to ask questions. Register here for the webcast. Both audio and video will be delivered through the user’s computer. The session also will be recorded for availability later.
Please plan to have staff members participate who are involved with the Third Grade Reading Guarantee requirements. We must implement the guarantee faithfully if we are to meet our obligation to provide a high quality education for Ohio’s boys and girls. Thank you for making this a district priority.
As we enter this week of Thanksgiving, I am personally grateful for the chance to serve Ohio’s 1.8 million public school students and the dedicated administrators and teachers who oversee their education every day. I wish you safety and great blessings as you gather for the holiday with family and friends.
