Nov. 22 training to focus on co-teaching
The department is offering a day-long professional development program for all educators on co-teaching strategies, in which multiple teachers share teaching responsibilities within the same physical space. The program will be held on Friday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ashland University’s satellite campus in Columbus.
This training is well suited to educators involved in pre-service education, beginning teacher mentorship and in any classroom that would benefit from the many collaborative approaches that will be explored.
The program, which is open to all higher education and K-12 educators, is part of the advanced training recommended for educators serving as mentors in the Ohio Resident Educator program. Register in STARS through your SAFE account by searching for keywords: Advanced Mentor Training. The cost is $85.
Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) is open
Candidates for the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) are receiving their invitations to register at OhioRESA.com because the window for the assessment’s first task is now open. Once their registrations are complete, candidates can begin submitting their Task 1 materials.
Teachscape, a department vendor, is sending the email messages from Do-Not-Reply-Ohio@teachscape.com to those resident educators who are registered in CORE as taking the RESA this year. District program coordinators for the Ohio Resident Educator program may find additional information on the department’s website and at OhioRESA.com.
Take Action Video Contest is now open for submissions
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office announces the launch of the 2013 Take Action Video Contest, which allows Ohio high school students to compete for college scholarships and statewide recognition while expressing their creativity.
Students (as individuals or in teams of two) can submit a 60-second video on consumer scams or identity theft. The top three winners will receive $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 college scholarships, respectively.
This is a great opportunity to engage students in a financial literacy project, class assignment or extra credit opportunity. We suggest sharing this information with social studies, business education, marketing education, family and consumer sciences, and information technology educators.
The video submission deadline is Dec. 13, 2013. For more contest information, which includes a document explaining the rules and guidelines of the competition and last year’s winners, visit www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/TakeActionContest.
