Application posted to add industry-recognized credentials for 2019-2020 school year

Earning 12 points of industry-recognized credentials and a WorkKeys score of 13 is one of three ways to earn a high school diploma. When students earn industry-recognized credentials, schools and districts get credit on the Ohio School Report Cards for their success in preparing students for careers. The process of earning industry-recognized credentials allows students to experience education through work, about work and for work. Students learn more deeply by practicing and applying their knowledge through work and employment experience.
Community stakeholders, including schools, districts, parents and businesses, may submit credentials to the Ohio Department of Education for addition to the list of approved industry-recognized credentials. Applications are due Dec. 31, 2018, for consideration for addition to the list for the 2019-2020 school year.
The 2019-2020 list will be updated in winter 2019 after all applications from the public are reviewed. Credentials must have significant and ongoing statewide or regional demand to be considered and must be tied to an Ohio in-demand job.
