Addressing bullying – what parents want to know
Parents of bullying victims often will ask teachers and principals what they can do to support their children. To help with these requests, this new webpage encourages parents to get informed about local anti-bullying policies, to ask their children’s schools about a Student Action Plan and to review tips on talking to their young children or teenagers.
This Department webpage contains links to many helpful resources, including the section for parents on stopbullying.gov. The site advises all parents and adults to be aware of the warning signs of bullying, since one study showed that 60 percent of young bullying victims are reluctant to tell an adult about such incidents. Since October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, now is a great time to share this information with parents.
