Regional one-day equity labs to assist with Fiscal Year 2019 planning

10/29/2018

The Ohio Department of Education is offering a one-day equity lab, Equity Lab 101: Developing Your Plan, at various locations across the state to assist districts with their annual local equitable access planning process. This work ensures that poor and minority students are receiving equitable access to excellent educators, as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). During the labs, participants can use the Equitable Access Analysis Tool to determine equity gaps, conduct a root-cause analysis and identify strategies to address gaps while also setting a goal to measure progress.

Each district should bring a stakeholder team of three to five people, including participants such as the superintendent, principals, teachers, human resources staff, federal programs staff, parents or community members. Teams are encouraged to bring a computer device, as participants will have an opportunity to submit their FY19 equity plans in the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP).

Districts will complete their local equitable access plans in the CCIP Equitable Access to Excellent Educators Tab starting in mid-November with the release of the FY19 Equitable Access Analysis Tool.

Scheduled training dates and locations include:

  • Nov. 19, Quest Conference Center, Columbus;
  • Nov. 29, Montgomery County ESC, Dayton;
  • Nov. 30, Muskingum Valley ESC, Zanesville;
  • Dec. 7, Ross-Pike ESC, Chillicothe;
