Additional Straight A Fund application and scoring process guidance available
Additional guidance on the Straight A Fund application and scoring process has been posted to the Straight A Fund Application Materials website. The materials include an annotated application, which provides guidance on how to answer each application question, as well as the rubrics scorers will use for assessing Straight A Fund proposals.
Foundation payment calculator available for treasurers
ODE has posted a foundation payment “calculator” for traditional school districts to estimate state foundation aid payments. Calculators for community schools, joint vocational schools, educational service centers, and county boards of developmental disabilities also are being developed.

School leaders invited to open discussions with higher education faculty
The Ohio Board of Regents is inviting school district leaders, as well as higher education faculty, to attend an open discussion on preparing Ohio educators for tomorrow’s classrooms. At meetings scheduled statewide, participants will be asked to discuss what is working well in the preparation of Ohio’s newest educators, and what knowledge and skills can be strengthened. School security grant webinar for superintendents and treasurers Oct. 9
This Wednesday, the Ohio School Facilities Commission is hosting a webinar for superintendents and treasurers to learn more about the School Security Grant guidelines and application process. HB 59 established a school security grant program for school districts across the state to purchase a Multi-Agency Radio Communications System (MARCS) or other emergency communications system or a security entrance system. Additional information on the program is available here.
Rural Education National Forum in Columbus Oct. 31-Nov. 1
Battelle for Kids and ODE are hosting the Rural Education National Forum Oct.31–Nov. 1 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The forum will highlight instructional and leadership practices in rural districts throughout the country, feature conversations about opportunities and challenges for rural education with national and local experts, and build a network for collaborative action.

Workers comp premium rebate program helps injured workers; enroll by Oct. 31
The deadline to enroll in the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Transitional Work Bonus program for 2014 is Oct. 31. This is part of the BWC’s Destination: Excellence portfolio of programs. This initiative offers districts up to a 10 percent rebate on annual workers’ compensation premiums for implementing transitional work as a district strategy to accommodate the temporary restrictions of an injured worker who has been released to return to work with restrictions by their physician.

Schools expected to receive teacher Value-Added data by Nov. 14
SAS is expected to release the teacher-level Value-Added reports for 2012-2013 on the EVAAS website by Nov. 14. As with the release of each Value-Added report, administrators will receive an automated email from EVAAS that will include existing username and login information needed to access these reports. In addition, accounts are automatically created for teachers receiving a Value-Added report and they will also receive their login information from EVAAS when the teacher reports are available.
In districts that do not have an EVAAS account, the superintendent needs to contact email@example.com to obtain new login information. The superintendent will then receive an account that contains administrative permissions to manage the district user and school administrative (principal) accounts, and provide login information to district personnel as needed.
