Flexibility for educator licensure renewal

9/8/2020

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ohio Department of Education is providing deadline flexibility for educator licensure renewal. All licenses previously set to expire on July 1 have now been extended to Dec. 1, 2020. This extension allows additional time for educators to complete their renewal requirements. Please see the Department’s Reset and Restart Education: Educator Licensure webpage for additional information.

Educators must complete professional development requirements and renew their currently expiring licenses before Dec. 1, 2020, or an additional three semester hours of professional education coursework will be required for renewal of their expired licenses.

Educators who have met renewal requirements should submit the online application now to avoid longer processing times later. Currently, the Office of Educator Licensure is processing applications within five to seven business days, but the processing time may increase as the renewal deadline approaches. If an application must go through the Office of Professional Conduct for further review, there will be additional processing time.

Questions may be directed to the Office of Educator Licensure by phone at 877-644-6338 or by sending a message to educator.licensure@education.ohio.gov.
