Free upcoming webinar describes new reference center

INFOhio will introduce the Literary Reference Center, a free resource that provides biographical information on thousands of worldwide authors throughout history, as well as summaries and analyses of their major works via a webinar on Oct. 3 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn tips for making the most of the essays, e-books, curriculum correlations and research guides available. INFOhio webinars are archived for later viewing, providing educators another option to earn certificates of attendance for CEU credit by answering questions afterward. New modules highlight formative instructional practices

Two new formative instructional practices (FIP) online modules are now available to assist educators as they prepare to teach to the rigor of Ohio’s New Learning Standards. Teacher teams are encouraged to use these modules as part of a collaborative, professional learning plan. Both modules are available through the Ohio Student Progress Portal (login required). Visit the redesigned FIP Your School Ohio website for module access instructions and additional information. The modules are:

  • FIP in Action: Advancing Formative Instructional Practices through Professional Learning Teams This two-hour program features a team of grade 3 math teachers and an intervention specialist as they plan and implement a unit of study. Participants will learn how the teachers: work together to deconstruct standards and create clear learning targets; collaborate to meet the needs of all students; create common formative assessments; and use evidence of student learning to make instructional decisions.
  • FIP in Action: Mathematics, Grade 8 Simultaneous Equations This one-hour module illustrates how one teacher uses the four core components of FIP as she engage her students in inquiry-based learning aimed at solving real-world problems involving simultaneous equations.
