Straight A Fund application scorers needed

The Ohio Department of Education is seeking qualified administrators, educators, faculty and graduate students to score Straight A Fund grant proposals. Scorers must have expertise in at least one of the following areas: program or organizational innovation; school finance; and/or experience reviewing or approving grant applications. Scorers will be paid $100 per grant application score for their time and effort, contingent upon satisfactory completion of the requirements and consistent with the required schedule. Students asked to send in videos about what school means to them

The department is seeking videos created by students who share their insights on school experiences. Selected videos will be showcased during Ohio’s Annual Statewide Education Conference Oct. 28-29 in Columbus. Videos must be 55 seconds in length and should be emailed to adrienne.carr@education.ohio.gov by Friday, Oct. 11. Video submissions become the property of the department and will not be returned. Submission indicates permission for the department to publicly present the video. For more information, click here.

Apply by Sept. 27 for middle school performance assessment grant

For the last year of the Ohio Performance Assessment Pilot Project (OPAPP), the department is offering a middle school grant in which teachers will create performance tasks and test them in their classes. The applications are due Sept. 27 and acceptance notifications will be made by Oct. 4. For more details and the grant application, see the OPAPP website. School leaders invited to open discussions with higher education faculty

The Ohio Board of Regents is inviting school district leaders, as well as higher education faculty, to attend an open discussion on preparing Ohio educators for tomorrow’s classrooms. At five meetings scheduled statewide, participants will be asked to discuss what is working well in the preparation of Ohio’s newest educators, and what knowledge and skills can be strengthened. Participants may attend any session, but are requested to RSVP by contacting B.J. Potter at bpotter@regents.state.oh.us. The schedule and locations are:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 2, 10 a.m. to noon – Hancock County Library, 206 Broadway Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840;

Technology Leadership Symposium 2013: Excellence in Ohio Schools Oct. 22

The Instructional Technology Service of Central Ohio and Educational Technology of Southeast Ohio are hosting the Technology Leadership Symposium 2013: Excellence in Ohio Schools at the School Study Council of Ohio in Dublin. The conference will provide administrators with a bird’s-eye view of the technology landscape for education. Participants also will hear from Ohio schools that have found innovative ways to implement technology-enriched programs in their schools. Round-table discussions will be held throughout the day where leaders in educational technology will share their practical experiences in implementing tech initiatives and sharing key information to avoiding challenges.
