2014 Ohio Educational Technology Conference call for proposals and early registration now open
Join educational technology experts, renowned keynote speakers and colleagues from around the state at the 2014 Ohio Educational Technology Conference Jan. 27-29, 2014, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Register now for early registration discounts.
Also, teachers, technology coordinators, administrators, public broadcasting personnel, educational service providers, and higher education faculty or staff may submit proposals for conference presentations and/or sessions here no later than Oct. 16, 2013.
The conference is the third-largest state educational technology conference in the nation. Each year, more than 5,000 educational technology professionals and enthusiasts come together to explore the forefront of P-20 learning and innovation in Ohio.
National Assessment Governing Board seeks nominees to fill five positions
The National Assessment Governing Board is currently seeking nominations of qualified individuals to serve as board members. Governing Board members set policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as the Nation’s Report Card.
For 2014, the Governing Board seeks nominations for five positions in these categories:
1. Secondary school principal;
2. Fourth-grade teacher;
3. Eighth-grade teacher;
4. Chief state school officer; and
5. General public representative not employed by a local, state or federal educational agency.

INFOhio providing free access to digital reading program for preK-3
All preK-3 schools now have free access to Scholastic BookFLIX through INFOhio. This new online literacy resource pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction e-books and supports the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Designed to complement a core reading program in grades preK-3, BookFlix offers 110 multi-media fiction/nonfiction pairs, of which more than 30 are available in Spanish. Pairings include: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type with Let’s Visit a Dairy Farm; The Snowy Day with Snowy Weather Days; and Happy Birthday, Moon with The Moon.
Key features include:
BookFLIX supports the Third Grade Reading Guarantee by building phonemic awareness; developing phonics decoding skills; and strengthening vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
It provides fiction/nonfiction pairs at the appropriate reading level for early readers, which supports Ohio’s New Learning Standards.
Many of the nonfiction titles cover STEM standards and social studies standards.
Lexile scores are included so that teachers can help students find a “just right” book.
Each fiction/nonfiction pair includes skill-building games.
Each fiction/nonfiction pair also includes a well-developed lesson plan and curriculum correlations.
