Final reminder: One percent alternate assessment justification portal closes today

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires each district or community school to submit a justification to its state education department when it anticipates testing more than 1 percent of students with the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities. The deadline for submitting this justification is today, Dec. 10 at 11:45 p.m.

2018-2019 Special Education Profiles sent Dec. 6

Every year, each school district receives a Special Education Profile displaying the district's performance on key indicators established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The profile also informs the district of any required activities based on these indicators. Districts must complete all required activities to demonstrate compliance with IDEA.

2019 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students packets mailed

On Dec. 7, the Assistive Technology & Accessible Educational Materials (AT&AEM) Center at OCALI (formerly the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence) sent out, through secure email, the 2019 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students packets on behalf of the Ohio Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children, requesting that districts register every enrolled, legally blind student. Registration should include all eligible preschool, homebound, home-schooled and adult students.
