Annual State Severe Weather Awareness poster contest winners announced

This year’s State Severe Weather Awareness poster contest recognized the work of 43 Ohio students. The Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness chose Alice Yoshida, a sixth grade student in Warren County during the 2013-2014 school year, as the overall state winner.

As we begin this new school year, I am encouraged by all that I believe we can achieve. Ohio’s boys and girls sit in your classrooms, eager to learn. While I understand that there is a lot for you to focus on, I implore you to do that with care. All that we do, each and every day, needs to be in an effort to prepare our youngsters to be proud, productive citizens.

Study on new Kindergarten Readiness Assessment

The department is seeking districts and schools for a voluntary study this fall that compares the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment-Literacy (KRA-L) to the new Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. The study will compare the language and literacy component of both assessments. Interested districts and schools can complete a brief online form.

Start Talking! offers a set of free tools for schools, teachers, parents and communities to reduce the risk of drug abuse among youth.
