Early childhood classrooms build a foundation for later reading success and kindergarten readiness. Educators do this by engaging in planning and play-based learning of emergent literacy skills including phonological awareness, print knowledge, oral language and vocabulary. Ohio’s early childhood educators now can participate in self-paced professional learning on emergent literacy through Cox Campus. Always no-cost and now Ohio Approved through the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association, Cox Campus’ coursework allows educators to expand their professional knowledge of the emergent and early language and literacy development for children birth through kindergarten entry.

The Innovative Education Pilot Program application for the 2023-2024 school year is available now. Any school district, educational service center or chartered nonpublic school may apply for statutory or administrative rule exemptions for the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative programs.
The application period is open through May 10 at 5 p.m. The Department will notify applicants of their waiver status in June. Direct questions to IEPP@education.ohio.gov.
