Implementation changes for federal grants under the Every Student Succeeds Act

As communicated on Thursday, Feb. 23, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) will require some changes to federal grants administration for states, districts and community schools. There are four key federal funding issues related to ESSA. Your district’s federal programs coordinator has received more details through the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP).

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate test fee reimbursement for 2016-2017

Also announced on Feb. 23, the federal government has eliminated the dedicated AP/IB Fee Reimbursement Grant for the 2016-2017 school year and beyond. This grant has provided funding since 2005 to reduce the costs of the Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests for low-income students. In place of this and many other dedicated funding programs, the federal government created a new block grant (under Title IV, Part A) that will provide funding for a variety of purposes.
