Better understanding chronic absenteeism

Ohio House Bill 410 directs districts that show chronic absenteeism rates of 5 percent or greater on their most recent report cards to develop absence intervention teams for the 2017-2018 school year. A district team is responsible for making sure each child who is habitually truant receives an absence intervention plan that identifies unique attendance barriers and solutions to the problem.

State to release 2017 Ohio School Report Cards

Ohio expects to release 2017 Ohio School Report Cards Thursday, Sept. 14.
 
The state is grading districts and schools on six components for the 2016-2017 school year: Achievement, Gap Closing, K-3 Literacy, Progress, Graduation Rate and Prepared for Success. Districts and schools receive A-F grades on each of the six components and most of the individual measures. There are no new measures on the 2016-2017 report cards.

House Bill 49 creates new rules and guidance on College Credit Plus

HB 49 allows the chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education and Ohio’s superintendent of public instruction to adopt rules that specify conditions under which an underperforming student can continue to participate in College Credit Plus.
