Comment period open until April 5 for revisions to Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and math

The Ohio Department of Education invites Ohioans to submit suggestions through April 5 as part of a periodic revision process for Ohio’s Learning Standards in English language arts and math. This feedback will help ensure the standards continue reflecting the most recent research and the experience of educators as they help students become ready for college and careers.

Here’s an important reminder about Curriculum Choice

Students electing to use Curriculum Choice to meet graduation requirements must make that decision and complete a Student Success Plan during their third year of high school. Curriculum Choice allows students to be excused from taking advanced science and Algebra II. See Ohio Curriculum Choices for further details.

New Online Videos Help Parents Support the Third Grade Reading Guarantee

Reading on the Go, Reading for a Purpose and Reading on the Screen, short videos that are less than three minutes, give parents concrete, easy tips to help their children become stronger readers and meet the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. The videos, developed to assist parents as they help their children practice reading, are perfect for sharing during parent nights and come with a collection of companion flyers with even more tips for parents. Wake Up to School Breakfast — National School Breakfast Week, March 7-11

At the Ohio Department of Education we believe — and evidence shows — that feeding students healthy, nutritious foods is key to their learning. Starting each day with a nutritious school breakfast allows children to concentrate on their schoolwork. More than 3,000 Ohio school sites participate in the school breakfast program daily.
