New resource to help districts jump-start their professional development plans

To support districts as they develop, select, access and evaluate professional development experiences, the department is offering a new resource titled Using the Ohio Standards for Professional Development. School leaders, teachers and local professional development committees can use this 15-minute video presentation, posted here, to help them get started on their professional development plans for the year.

Released in 2015, the Ohio Standards for Professional Development focus on seven broad themes for helping school districts build effective professional learning systems. The standards describe the essential elements of such a system that will help educators develop and access learning opportunities for improving their teaching and producing gains in student progress.

The Ohio Standards for Professional Development webpage also provides a quick reference guide, guiding questions and links to how local professional development committees can support this work districtwide.

Be sure to review this important work and ensure that your district is using the standards to their full potential. For more information, please contact Virginia Cardwell.
