Wake Up to School Breakfast — National School Breakfast Week, March 7-11

At the Ohio Department of Education we believe — and evidence shows — that feeding students healthy, nutritious foods is key to their learning. Starting each day with a nutritious school breakfast allows children to concentrate on their schoolwork. More than 3,000 Ohio school sites participate in the school breakfast program daily.

Free workshop on adapted physical education planned

Educators interested in learning more about adapted physical education will want to attend a free hands-on workshop on Monday, April 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Columbus. During the session, each attendee will present to other participants a lesson plan he or she developed, followed by group discussion. Each participant will be expected to submit a lesson plan in advance for inclusion in a workbook that will be available to all attendees who submit plans.

Volunteers sought for accreditation visits; applications due March 18

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation is looking for administrators and teachers at preschools through high schools who are interested in evaluating educator preparation programs at higher education institutions. Evaluators serve on peer review panels that will help determine if the educator preparation programs will receive or maintain accreditation. After receiving training, members of review panels make at most two site visits per year of about three days each.

Value-added professional learning sessions begin March 14

Register now for an upcoming professional learning session to prepare for the release of value-added reports. Beginning March 14, these sessions are designed to build educators’ capacities to access, navigate, interpret and make diagnostic use of the various SAS® EVAAS® reports. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to leverage district, school and teacher-level value-added reports along with projection reports to accelerate student learning and inform professional practice.

New resource available for schools and districts to share with parents and families about the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment

The Office of Early Learning and School Readiness has posted a new resource for schools and districts to share with parents and families about the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA). The Welcome to Kindergarten-KRA Family Resource document is the first in a series of new resources to support administrators and educators in communicating with parents the purpose of the KRA. By the end of March, two additional resources will accompany this document on the same Web page — a PowerPoint and a video that can be shared with parents and families during kindergarten enrollment events.
