Jo Hannah Ward

Bio_Ward_B.pngJo Hannah Ward serves as the director of the Office of Improvement and Innovation. This office guides Ohio’s most challenged schools through the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP). The OIP helps schools and districts develop school improvement plans aimed at making sustainable changes in their systems that will lead to improved outcomes for all students. Ward also oversees Ohio’s regional state support teams. These teams help schools and districts implement their improvement plans.

Prior to joining the Office of Improvement and Innovation, Ward served as the assistant director in the Office for Exceptional Children. She has 27 years of experience in education. Her background includes direct classroom experience and experience with mental health services for students. Previously, she was the deputy superintendent at the Ohio Department of Youth Services and the Franklin County Court Juvenile Detention Facility. Throughout her career, she has worked with education and community agencies to help students with special needs succeed both academically and in their communities.

Ward received a Master of Education from the University of Dayton and has a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University in Family Relations and Human Development with a focus on Adolescent Development. She also is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio.
