Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band to Perform with OSU Marching Band

Release date: 8/27/2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band, the only blind marching band in the world, will perform at several events this fall, including the Sept. 21 Ohio State football game against Florida A&M.

The nationally recognized band, marching under the leadership of band director Dan Kelley and music director Carol Agler, has the ability to both entertain and inspire audiences wherever they perform. Each fall, the band performs half-time shows at area football games, assisted by volunteer marching assistants.

Kelley and Agler hope other band directors will adopt their instructional methods, opening doors for visually impaired musicians to participate in the joy of marching band.

“Blindness does not mean you can't – it just means you do things differently,” Agler said of the band members.

The 24 members of the Marching Panthers will return to Ohio Stadium for the game against Florida A&M to perform “Script Ohio” in Braille with the Ohio State University Marching Band.

The band also will be marching in parades at the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival on Aug. 28 and the Circleville Pumpkin Show on Oct. 17.
