State Board of Education to Meet Oct. 7 and 8

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The State Board of Education will conduct its monthly meeting starting at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 7 and 8 at the Ohio Department of Education, 25 S. Front Street, Columbus.
On Monday, the Graduation Requirements, Capacity, Achievement, and Urban Education committees will meet in the morning, with the Accountability and newly formed Operating Standards committees meeting in the afternoon.
On Tuesday, the board will receive an update from Superintendent Dr. Richard A. Ross on the Third Grade Reading Guarantee and the Straight A Fund.

The State Board of Education has set education policy and directed the planning and evaluative functions of Ohio’s public schools, as well as appointed and evaluated the superintendent of public instruction, since 1956. The vision of the State Board is for all students to graduate well prepared for success. The State Board is made up of 19 members, including 11 elected and eight appointed members. The chairs of the education committees of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate serve as ex officio members.
