Governor DeWine has taken an extraordinary step today to protect the health and safety of Ohio’s residents, students and educators. We appreciate the cooperation we’ve received from schools across the state during this time and their focused activity to be ready for this reality. We anticipate continued cooperation as we transition to this period of suspended in-person activity as seamlessly as possible. We are especially grateful to schools that have proactively developed plans to keep learning going even if school buildings aren’t open. There is a lot of momentum in Ohio’s schools right now and we would hate to see that momentum stalled, although we understand that today’s announcement does mean there will be disruptions.

Ohio Department of Education Announces 2020 Summer Food Service Program

The Ohio Department of Education announced it is seeking local nonprofit agencies to participate as sponsors or meal sites for the 2020 Summer Food Service Program. The Summer Food Service Program ensures that children ages 1-18 continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer break from school, when they do not have access to school breakfast or lunch. Children with disabilities and approved individualized education programs may participate through age 21.

CCSSO Announces Four Finalists for 2020 National Teacher of the Year

The Council of Chief State School Officers today announced that four dedicated educators from around the country have been named finalists for the 2020 National Teacher of the Year. The four finalists, in alphabetical order, are Chris Dier, the 2020 Louisiana Teacher of the Year; Leila Kubesch, the 2020 Ohio Teacher of the Year; Tabatha Rosproy, the 2020 Kansas Teacher of the Year; and Linda Rost, the 2020 Montana Teacher of the Year.
